Bojnice Castle

is one of the most romantic and most visited castles in Slovakia, it stands above the town of Bojnice. The castle has a museum with weaponry, furniture and paintings as well as Bojnice Zoo. A guide will take you through the castle, explaining and showing you all its beauty, there are also some items from Matus Cak, an early Slovak hero who owned the castle in the 13th century. Strecno Castle

Is built on a rock over the river Vah. It was considered the safest fortress of the region. First mention of this castle is from 1321 although there is some evidence that it dates back to the 9th century. It is said that traders who did business in this area had to pay tax, this is believed to have been the same for other castles. It now belongs to the National heritage. Website

Lietava Castle

Is built on top of the Sulov mountains in the 13th century. Trading in amber was the reason why Lietava castle was built. It was an impressive castle, now it is the second largest ruin in Slovakia. There is no admission fee, it is looked after by volunteers. Website

Orloj in Stara Bystrica

Is the biggest wooden sculpture in Slovakia. In the centre of the sculpture is a clock which is surrounded by different statues. It was made specifically for the location and it shows lunar and sun positions. Truly amazing. Website

Orava Castle

Is one of the most beautiful in the Orava region. You will find it in the village of Oravsky Podzamok, towering above the river Orava, it dates back to the 13th century. Site of historical beauty. Website

Museum of a village in Vychylovka

Is a traditionally constructed village with original houses, pub and small railway as they once were in the Kysuce regions. It will not only show you the buildings but also the traditional way of living. And you can also take a ride in the small railway that is still in full working order. Website

Starhrad Ruin

Not far from Strecno castle on the opposite side you will find this amazing ruin, mounted on the side of a rocky face. Its original name was Varin which was first registered in the 14th century. Website
